Why You Should Buy A Digital Picture Frame

Since the introduction of digital photography, more people have been switching from picture prints to digital memory. Some people are cutting the cost of printing pictures by printing their own digital photos at home. Others are opting not to print their photos at all but instead displaying them in digital pictures frames. Consumers are now welcoming digital picture frames into their homes and offices.

Size

Digital picture frames come in sizes varying from 1 inch up to 32 inches. These digital picture frames can be small enough to fit on a key-chain or large enough to be mistaken for a television. These frames allow the consumer to showcase multiple photos while only taking up the space of one. Whether the buyer is looking for a small frame for their office or looking for a large display for their art gallery, there is a digital picture frame to fit their needs. Digital picture frames are taking the place of bulky photo albums.

Flexibility

Changing the photos in a digital photo frame is much easier than the old single photo frame. No longer is there the need to remove the frame from the wall, remove the backing, remove the picture, add new picture, replace the back and replace the frame on the wall. The size, flexibility, and cost of digital picture frames are only a few of the great reasons why many consumers are replacing their old picture frames. They have been replaced by the digital photo frame, each capable of displaying the stories and memories of loved ones.

What is the difference between DDR2 and DDR3 Memory?

Over five years ago, DDR2 memory came on the scene. They were an upgrade from the slower, older memory sticks known as Double Data Rate or DDR RAM. For the past few years, they were industry standard for personal computers. However, their reign appears to be fading. Newer chips, known as DDR3, have appeared. Most consumers are not aware of the differences between the chips sets.

The first difference is latency, or the time it takes from request to reception of the first bit of data. The DDR3 memory has slower latencies than the DDR2. It takes longer for the DDR3 memory to send data when it receives a request. The next difference is bandwidth. The higher the bandwidth, the faster the memory modules get data. The DDR3 memory comes with speeds starting at 1033 MHz and going up to 1600 MHz. On the other side, with DDR2, the basic memory modules clock at 800 MHz, with 1250 MHz possible with over clocking. This indicates the DDR3 memory modules have a higher rate of data transfer.

The throughput of both chips depends on the bandwidth and latency rates. If you tested memory sticks with the same bandwidth side by side, the DDR2 would have the higher throughput due to the slower latency of the DDR3. However, if the DDR3 came with a higher bandwidth, the latency issue becomes minimal. Throughput will increase with bandwidth, despite a slower latency. The latency problem diminishes further with a higher count of internal banks. The DDR3 contains eight internal banks, compared to the four in the DDR2. As the DDR3 memory gets faster, the throughput will outstrip the DDR2 easily.

The DDR3 memory is more energy efficient than the DDR2. The DDR3 memory came off the drawing board with power conservation built in. The DDR2 memory, on the other hand, eats the same amount of power whether in idle or full throttle.

Price and compatibility are the biggest differences right now. The DDR2 memory works in most motherboards today. The DDR3 memory only works in motherboards produced recently. The DDR3 memory can costs twice what the DDR2 memory does. However, as the compatibility issue resolves itself, the prices for the DDR3 and compatible motherboards will go down. DDR2 will remain a standard for a while. However, the faster technology of the DDR3 will likely become the industry standard very soon.
